Green Lake Golf – Sustainable Redevelopment
On behalf of GEO Sustainable Golf Foundation, an international non-profit foundation entirely dedicated to driving sustainability in and through golf since 2005, I am writing to express our support for Green Lake Golf (‘GLG’) and their innovative approach to addressing the environmental and economic challenges facing golf course owners today.
GLG’s holistic, forward-thinking model aligns closely with our mission to promote conservation of natural resources, sustainable land use balances, and responsible development practices. By reimagining the traditional golf course through strategic redesign and careful sustainably led redevelopment, GLG is presenting a practical solution to the increasingly urgent issue of water scarcity, particularly in regions affected by stringent water usage regulations such as Arizona’s 5th Management Plan, taking effect January 1, 2025.
We are particularly impressed by GLG’s ability to reduce maintained turf and lower overall water consumption significantly, all while preserving the integrity of golf course operations. Their model not only supports compliance with regulatory frameworks, but also introduces sustainable development opportunities by converting underutilized golf course land into quality, environmentally conscious housing uses. This “win-win-win” outcome benefits owners, surrounding communities, and the environment alike.
In our view, GLG’s integrative approach—combining design, legal, real estate, and sustainability expertise—is an exemplar model for climate-resilient land management. We commend their leadership in promoting financially and environmentally sustainable solutions and look forward to the positive impact this initiative can have on water conservation efforts and sustainable community growth.
Your sincerely,
Sam Thomas
